I think most people consider Rivals the foremost authority; so having the 4th ranked class (hopefully we don't move down) would be the best since Holtz was at Notre Dame. Whiffing on a few defensive recruits is a bummer, but we still have a bunch of great players coming in, including the #1 player Jimmy Clausen.

Rivals has proved to be the best talent evaluators, but it's still an inexact science. I'll take the 4th ranked class all day long.

Our recruiting class is very solid, it's just that so many Irish fans had huge expectations going into the year that anything but a #1 class is disappointing.

Right on weisnd, the only reason more Notre Dame fans aren't elated with this class is because of expectations...kind of like with our football team.

We did lose out on 6-8 five star guys that we thought were locks for ND this year. A top 4 class is stellar, despite not filling some much need positions.
It wasn't that our expectations about recruiting were to high going into the season, the fact that we got smoked in three games this year and our defense was atrocious was the reason we missed out on these guys. Honestly, if all of these recruits didn't state they were leaning towards ND at the beginning then we would be estatic about this class. I think from this season on we will expect a top 5 class, anything else would be very disappointing.
How did are class really fair?
Current DT = 4 Recruits = 3
Current DE = 4 Recruits = 1
Current MLB = 3 Recruits = 1
Current OLB = 3 Recruits = 2
Current CB = 5 Recruits = 1
Current S = 6 Recruits = 1
We have the numbers, but we are still lacking the quality of a top notch defense. That will hopefully change this year when we take 15+ defensive recruits.
